All we know about iTunes that is used to sync files to iOS device from a computer. iTune backup iOS device content to your computer, so when the PC encounter any drive formatting of or restoration of operating system, all content gets deleted.
The iCloud Drive is a solution of this problem which stores the backup in Apple server rather than your PC hard drive. You can access to your stored data from any device running on iOS, Mac OS X and even Windows. If you are interested to know more about this service, you can follow this short guide.

Think twice before you migrate to iCloud Drive
Before starting to discuss in detail, I must say a few words about iCloud Drive. It should be clear that iCloud and iCloud Drive are not the same thing, even if they share the same name. Once activated iCloud Drive, everything that is on the "old" iCloud is transferred into the new cloud system designed by Apple. This means that iCloud Drive is only compatible with iOS devices running iOS 8 and Macs running OS X Yosemite or for Windows 7 and later,
So, If you have any Apple device (also Mac), which cannot be upgraded to iOS 8 and Yosemite, it can no longer access the files stored on iCloud Drive. Because, after you upgrade to iCloud Drive, you can't go back to old iCloud. So, once again, I urge you to think twice before making the leap.

How to use iCloud Drive on your iPhone or iPad
The nice thing about iCloud Drive is that it works without having to perform any configuration. Once activated, all Apps designed to save files on this platform, will show an option to access to cloud Drive.
For example, it you are creating a PDF file on iPad Air 2 with your favorite apps and want to export it to iCloud Drive to later work from our home PC; you can simply tap on the sharing icon and select "Export to iCloud Drive" and you're done. Nothing could be easier, right?
A big difference between iCloud and iCloud Drive can be explained here. Any file that was sent to iCloud "lived" within a specific area, cannot be accessible by any other application. Like the pdf file you created with PDF Expert app can only be opened and edited by it.
With iCloud Drive this option changes radically: finally applications communicate with each other and are able to exchange files between them. This means that the created PDF file with PDF Expert on your iPad can easily be opened and edited on your iPhone using any other application that can read PDF files.
Another completely different thing is the file system management of iCloud Drive which is structured like Dropbox and we can do anything with the stored files like move within folders, creating new files and folders from iCloud-enabled apps.
How to activate iCloud Drive on your iPhone
The activation of iCloud comes automatically with iOS8 upgrade. During iOS 8 upgradation process, a popup with a request to upgrade to iCloud Drive will appear. You just need to tap on “Yes” and it will configure automatically. On the contrary, if you choose “No” in this stage, you have to activate it manually later on, just follow the steps:
- Open Settings from your iPhone or iPad upgraded to iOS 8,
- Select iCloud
- Select iCloud Drive
- Select upgrade to iCloud Drive .
Then a popup will appear that will warn you of the incompatibility with previous operating systems, ignore this warning and just press “Continue”. For any iOS device that you want to enable, just repeat the same procedure.
How to choose a subscription plan iCloud Drive
Apple offers to all users 5 GB of free storage on iCloud Drive, which are barely sufficient to make a couple of backup. If you think you need more space you can purchase a monthly subscription plan ranging from 20 GB to 1 TB by following these steps:

How to Access iCloud Drive Files
There is no single App in iOS to view stored files in your iCloud Drive. A third Party app called Cloud Opener could be used to browse and manage iCloud drive files but recently it has been removed from iTune store due to non-computability. But, it is possible to display all the files and folders stored in iCloud Drive from your browser.
- Open Safari and type www.icloud.com in the address bar
- Enter your Apple ID and Password.
